Like most clinics I have no open appointments for the next months. You are welcome to send an email stating the question, age, school situation and prior assessments. If an appointment happens to get free, I would write to you at rather short notice.
Psychotherapy: no appointments available
I provide diagnostics and support for adolescents, children and their families on all mental health issues.
A special focus of my work are questions about Autism Spectrum Disorders. gifted children, asynchronous development, perception disorders, learning disabilities or behavioral disorders and attention problems. Adults are also very welcome.
Many cognitively highly gifted people manage their lives well. But in the context of intellectual giftedness some students suffer from inappropriate schooling, lack of learning strategies, or they may feel excluded, have a negative self-image and suffer from envy or bullying. Sometimes a disorder like ADHD, ADD or Autism Spectrum Disorder makes life more difficult – there might be a problem with dyslexia or dyscalculia. Missed diagnosis can occure in highly gifted individuals as well as misdiagnosis of their healthy needs as disorders. Twice exceptional students may be gifted and have a disability at the same time. Careful adjustments may be needed to create the educational and family environment that helps children and their families to develop well.
Some children are referred by parents because teachers suspect the child to benefit from a closer look at problems like
– ADHD, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
– ADD, Attention Deficit Disorder
– ASD, Autism Spectrum Disorders
– Dyslexia, problems reading and writing
– Dyscalculia, problems in math
– language development disorder
– AVWS, auditive processing and perception disorder
– Depression or anxiety disorder
If you have already seen a professional e. g. speech therapist, a school psychologist or pediatrician please do send in scans of reports and test results.
Testing of intelligence can be a necessary. What exactly do we mean by cognitive intelligence? How reliable can this be tested? At what age? When is a child under-stimulated, when is it over-stimulated? What if a child has previously been tested as cognitively gifted, but shows poor performance in school? How does “giftedness” relate to “high performance”?
Parental counseling or psychotherapy may be useful, sometimes a supportive medication or a specialized educational services or a compensation of their disadvantages.
My goal is to understand any behavior your child may show on the background of its personal story, the family and school situation. Strengths and resources of the family are an important issue in understanding causes and symptoms, and we will use them to facilitate positive changes.
